Opening on Saturday June 30th, from 6:00pm to 9:00pm "Blank Land" is collaborative show exploring urban identity crises, sacrifice, and heroism through the lens of mythology and American values. Using contradiction, symbolism, and coincidence histories are created and layered-- anchored in this narrative blueprint. The story is a mythical and satirical portrait of Americana that examines fanaticism and the complexities of the American hero. Artists respond to different facets of the story, organically building it along the way, each exhibition the latest chapter in an ever growing epic. Oh Nancy was created and is directed by Arthur Henderson, Nathan Wellman and Fionn McCabe. The "Blank Land" is also open for viewing on Tuesday, from 11:00am to 5:00pm

Introvert" - Expressive Mixed Media Paintings by K Lenore Siner

"Lost At Sea", Mixed Media, 30"x30", 2012, K Lenore Siner

For the first time in Massachusetts, K Lenore Siner will exhibit new mixed media paintings in a one month solo show at Prana, 292 Centre St, Newton MA.  The exhibition will open July 1st and run through July 31st.  The opening reception is Thursday, July 12th from 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm.
K Lenore Siner's work is unique in technique and expressive in content.  This exhibition showcases her experiments with wax, oil paint, china marker and glass substrates - primarily wooden framed windowpanes.  The paintings are themselves windows into an emotional terrain, an exploration of the dialog between the external world and our emotional reactions to it.
In "Lost At Sea", a small blue figure crouches with its head down.  Stars, flowers and ocean circle in geometric planes around the figure, the edges defined by splashes of wax and finally the exposed glass pane beneath.  The viewer may question if the figure is aware of the activity going on around it or if the landscape is actually a depiction of its thoughts.  This juxtaposition of internal/external is highlighted by Siner's use of wax and paint in successive transparent layers which creates opportunities to look through the painting to images within.
K Lenore Siner is a self taught painter with formal training in sculpture from the Massachusetts College of Art.  She has exhibited work throughout New England and currently serves as the director of Peregrine Gallery in Providence, RI.

The Thing in the Spring/ BROKE!!!

poster by Ryan Wilson

The Thing in the Spring is happening this weekend (6/8-6/10) in Peterborough NH. It's three days of music and art, which of course means another Broke!

*broke is a multidisciplinary arts event that has taken place in Peterborough, NH five times since its inception in 2008. The *broke philosophy is simple: art is for everybody. All *broke events are free to the public, and *broke vendors commit to presenting their wares for less than $50.
*broke will take place on June 9th, 2012 from 10am-4pm in the beautiful Peterborough Town House (1 Grove Street, Peterborough NH) All ages/Free admission
I've done it three times and it's always awesome. A group of really amazing artists selling some cool stuff for cheap, it's definitely a good time. Stop by and check it out.
Other events during the weekend include: performances from world-renowned musicians, film screenings, and a local farm breakfast/cartoon cereal party at Harlow's Pub. Find out more information at www.thethinginthespring.com or The Thing in the Spring Facebook page.
