"Three Places At Once" - New Encaustic Paintings Explore Archetype and Altered Consciousness

"Three Places At Once", Mixed Media on Glass, 29"x33", 2012, K Lenore Siner
For the first time in Boston, K Lenore Siner will exhibit new encaustic paintings in a one month solo show at The Mission Bar and Grill, 724 Huntington Ave, Boston MA. The exhibition with open August 1st and run through August 31st. The opening reception is Saturday, August 4th from 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm. K Lenore Siner's work is unique in technique and expressive in content. This series of portraits showcases her experiments with wax, oil paint, china marker and glass substrates - primarily wooden framed windowpanes. The paintings are themselves windows into each subjects emotional terrain - portraits in which Siner uses layers of wax to separate the delicately rendered figures from the imagined or archetypal imagery of snakes, birds and geometric symbols. Think the Major Arcana of the Tarot or the blurred but visceral content of dreams. Siner studied at Massachusetts College…

A dinosaur carcass, freshly deceased, is found in the local woods. Meteors fall from the sky. These are strange times... but most people have enough to worry about just getting through the day. Aging couple Flo and Murray face tough news from their doctor, while teen goth Jeanie endures clueless parents and heartless classmates. Their stories -- and more -- twine together into a moving examination of grief, mystery, and human connection. Don't miss Patt Kelley's powerful debut at Top Shelf!

Hayley Morgenstern and Creighton Baxter - "It Might Get Better"

Hayley Morgenstern and Creighton Baxter "It Might Get Better" The value of some aspects of historical gay identity-- deeply ideological though they may be--have been diminished or dismissed with successive waves of liberation. Central among these is the association between homosexual love and loss--a link that, historically, has given queers insight into love's failures and impossibilities (as well as, of course, wild hopes for its future). Claiming such an association rather than disavowing it, I see the art of losing as a particularly queer art. --Heather Love, Feeling Backwards: Loss and the Politics of Queer History Hayley Morgenstern and Creighton Baxter are transdisciplinary artists who are concerned with deconstructing/sexing the spectrums and constellations of identification within visual cultures; searching for the spectral histories and affective potentialities of queer performative languages that have yet to cum and are simultaneously already here.   View…
