The Slutcracker is a scene-by-scene retelling of The Nutcracker ballet which itself was adapted from the children’s story The Nutcracker and the Mouse King by E.T.A Hoffmann. However, The Slutcracker is decidedly NOT for children. Indeed, The Slutcracker is a night for grown-ups, no matter how “immature” it might seem. The story follows Clara, a twenty-something woman who, with the help of eccentric and willful Auntie Drosselmeyer and her very special gift of a magic “toy,” journeys from a suburban, hum-drum lifestyle and relationship with fiancé Fritz, to a land of sexual fantasy, adventure, and fulfillment accompanied by the Slutcracker Prince. The show incorporates a variety of dance styles including ballet, jazz, flamenco, belly dance, hoop, hip-hop, and pole all set to the strains of famously sexually repressed Tchaikovsky. The Slutcracker strives to be inclusive both of our performers and crew and of our audiences. While they certainly can’t make everyone happy, they do welcome all genders, colors, shapes, sizes, and orientations. A person needn’t even be a slut to be a part of or to enjoy the show. The Slutcracker has been performing to sold-out audiences since 2008; 2012 will mark their 5th performance season.
