65º is a remarkable encaustic art exhibition involving 25 female artists. Encaustic painting is an ancient technique that artists continue to use today. Generally, wax is heated to a liquid state and mixed with pigmentation. Once the mixture is perfectly melted, the artist will apply it to their surface, most often wood. Then the surface itself can be heated to create a fusion of wax and wood. Before the wax dries, metal tools or brushes can be used to transform the artwork. Some artists embed interesting objects into the wax before it dries. If the artist isn't happy with the outcome, they can reheat it and continue to alter the wax until they are satisfied. Stop by Nave Gallery Annex to get an up-close glimpse of this wondrous technique.
