South End Open Studios This Weekend September 20,21

This weekend is the South End Open Studios, Jenn Sherr's studio will be open to the public from 11-6 Saturday and Sunday, You may find more information about South End Open Studios here

While some of the studios in the South End are open to the public at other times during the year, South End Open Studios is the only time when all of the major art buildings in the South End are open to the public.  South End Open Studios is your unique chance to explore the roots of the modern South End and to salute the artists who moved to the neighborhood long before the warehouses were renovated, the lofts were built and the brownstones were gentrified.  In many ways it was the energy of the artists that has created what today is one of the most vibrant neighborhoods in the city.

Printed guides featuring details on the artists and a map with all studio locations included will be available at the two South End Open Studios Information Tables located at the Boston Center For The Arts, 539 Tremont Street and at the corner of Wareham and Harrison.
South End Open Studios is celebrating its 27th anniversary this year.  The event, begun by a small group of artists, has grown to encompass 12 major buildings and numerous smaller spaces throughout the South End. Over the last few years, some of Boston's most noted galleries have also made the South End their home.

The free event showcases the works of more than 200 established and emerging artists creating art in a wide variety of media including painting, sculpture, photography, ceramics, glass and fiber.  The public is welcomed into their studios and galleries to meet the artists, talk about the art and purchase art directly from the artists.  A number of artists will also be doing In-Studio demonstrations throughout the event including photography, paper quilts, and letterpress printing.

Arts Union and Danielle Festa Present: Who Are You Wearing? An Outdoor Exhibition of Street Fashion Paintings

Arts Union and Danielle Festa Present:
Who Are You Wearing? An Outdoor Exhibition of Street Fashion Paintings
October 12, 2013 from 2PM – 5PM
Union Square Plaza, Somerville, MA

On Saturday, October 12, come Union Square for an outdoor art exhibition.  Somerville Arts Council Grant recipient, Danielle Festa, will be displaying original mixed media oil paintings that capture an array of street fashion. Her newest works will include subjects from her red carpet photo shoot that took place in Union Square back in May.
Festa usually takes photo references for her paintings from unsuspecting passers by. This time she took a different approach, setting the scene for a photoshoot  in which anyone could participate. Her paintings focus on the influence of attire, so she was looking for a true sampling of the variety Union Square fashion has to offer.
The contradiction of everyday people posing on what is normally reserved for the fashion elite is part of what draws Festa to the red carpet scenario. You can expect the elements of the red carpet along with fabrics relating back to the fashion of her subject to be integrated into her oil paintings.
The exhibition will be held from 2 PM to 5PM in the Union Square Plaza. In addition to the artwork on display, there will be hor generously donated by Cantina La Mexicana and Sweet Ginger
This program is supported in part by a grant from the Somerville Arts Council, a local agency supported by the Massachusetts Cultural Council.

Kristilyn Stevenson's Fish Scales and Feather Tales Solo Art Show

Fish Scales & Feather Tales
A Solo Collection by Kristilyn
Based on the Little Mermaid and Jorinda & Joringel

Featuring snacks, beverages and fairy tale telling

Kristilyn will be present at the gallery for Jamaica Plain Open Studios weekend, September 21st & 22nd.

The Revolver @ the
Uforge Gallery
767 Centre Street
Jamaica Plain, MA 02130
Open Thursday through Sunday

Fish Scales and Feather Tales is a series of works blending classic fairy tales with personal narrative in a series of colorful ink and gouache illustrations. Each work draws from my two favorite folk tales: The Little Mermaid by Hans Christian Andersen and Jorinda and Joringel by the Brothers Grimm. Using imagery from these works as a foil, I seek to explore moments of my own history involving personal growth and transformation, unrequited love, and disconnection from family.
