'I've Been Everywhere, Man: Musicians on the Road' at the Nave Gallery Annex in Davis Square (Somerville, MA)

(Somerville, MA) The Nave Gallery Annex in Davis Square presents 'I've Been Everywhere, Man: Musicians on the Road,' a group exhibition sponsored by Atwood's Tavern and Panopticon Imaging, featuring the work of over twenty-five local and regional artists and musicians, and curated by Jenn Harrington and Susan Berstler. The exhibit runs from November 6-22, 2014, with an opening reception on Thursday, November 6, 2014, 6-8 p.m. and a special event - On the Road: Stories - on November 12, 2014, 7-9 p.m.

'I've Been Everywhere, Man: Musicians on the Road'
We elevate our heroes. The gods are in the clouds. Superheroes fly. Marbled idols stand on pedestals. And our cameras aim at musicians where they are at their best - on stage. But how do they get there? And, more importantly - with days dedicated to cramped cars, thin wallets, beat-up motels, loneliness - why do they follow that long and winding road from one venue to the next? 'I've Been Everywhere, Man: Musicians on the Road' is an intimate exhibition of the reflections, adventures, humor, and hardships of musicians on tour.

Evil Ugly Monster Show at the UGLYgallery

October 9 – November 1, 2014
Artists reception: Saturday, October 25, 2014

AHA Night! Get here or the internet will beat you to it!!!!

UGLYgallery is proud to present the Evil, UGLY, Monster Show featuring work curated by MCA of Evil Design and Matt Walker of Monster Kolor from over 40 local, national, and international low brow and designer toy artists.

Toys are not just child’s play. The collector designer toy market has been steadily growing since the late 90’s, and our guest curators MCA and Monster Kolor have been there every step of the way. MCA’s roots run deep in the urban contemporary art game. Over the past 20 years, he has produced toys, tees, prints, and stickers, lots and lots of stickers! His evil ape and qee zilla, produced by Hong Kong designer toy company Toy2R, are great examples of the evolution of his work as an illustrator. The development of the sketch that then became a sticker on a street corner, that then inspired the design of a vinyl toy has taken him around the world and back again. His career thus far has quietly been published in numerous books, landed him on stage teaching thousands, and in shows around the world representing his vinyl toys, stickers, and illustrations. Matt Walker of Monster Kolor has turned hobby and passion into an industry leading paint company. Combining his love for pin striping and custom painting, Monster Kolor, has developed a superior quality paint that has taken the vinyl toy industry by storm. Now represented in multiple countries and all over the US, Monster Kolor has brought his industry and creativity to a new level.
These two have put together a spectacular cast of artists whose works reflect the designer toy industry’s development. From three dimensional vinyl and wooden toys, to wall art, fiber art, photography and works on paper, this show encapsulates all the facets of the vinyl toy movement. With over 40 artists in the show, there is sure to be something here for everyone.
Please Join the UGLYgallery in celebrating the Evil, UGLY, Monster show. We will be hosting a preview show on October 4 from 6-9, and an artists reception on October 25th from 6-10. This exhibit will be on display until November 1st. Monster Kolor will also be hosting a pin striping workshop on October 25th from 3-5 as well.

Water Stories: Conversations in Paint and Sound at the Museum of Science Boston

"Water — our most precious resource. Easy to take for granted, but without it, there can be no life. Industrial practices, human behaviors, and climate change have caused us to face unquestionable challenges regarding the future of our water supply. Through paint and sound, artist Anne Neely, in collaboration with sound artist Halsey Burgund, focuses our attention on alarming stories unfolding today. Neely invites inquiry into water's unifying role in our world and the many ways humans affect it."  Learn more about artist Anne Neely.

Neely and Islam will visit the Museum of Science on Wednesday, October 1st to discuss Neely’s making of Water Stories: Conversations in Paint and Sound exhibit and Islam’s insights into the water-related issues that affect our lives. Immediately following the program attendees are welcome to tour the gallery and experience the exhibit which includes audioscapes designed by sound artist Halsey Burgund.

The October 1st program, which runs from 7:00 – 9:00 pm, is free and open to the public.
