For over five decades, John Baldessari has influenced generations of artists as both an educator and creator and continues to transform his practice today. On May 18th, the School of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston (SMFA), is proud to celebrate the iconic artist and long-time educator at the 2015 Medal Award Gala in the Ruth and Carl J. Shapiro Family Courtyard at the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston. First presented in 1996, SMFA’s Medal Award, annually recognizes notable artists and influential art patrons for their commitment to make an impact on the art world. Past recipients include Glenn Ligon, Alex Katz, Kiki Smith, and Mike and Doug Starn. The 2015 gala—which will include dinner, award presentation, and silent auction of student art work—directly supports educational resources and opportunities for SMFA’s students.
